About Me

bijoutiful I'm just a girl from Barbados with a torch & an ever-growing arsenal of tools, equipment, and ideas. I'm completely self-taught, too (so far), and love what I do! To date, I am extremely comfortable with several jewelry-making techniques, such as: soldering, sawing/piercing, stonesetting bezels, filigree, wire-wrapping & stringing, texturing--hammers, roll printing, abrasives, a mild form of etching which produces a matte finish on brass (never any acid), forming, texturing and planishing using hammers, roll-printing, stamping, aging/antiquing, resoration, finishing, and torch-firing enamels. I know quite a bit about other techniques and mediums such as chasing, repousse, & kiln fired glass enamel, but since I have insufficient *working* knowledge and hands-on experience in these areas I plan to practise these techniques a lot more in the future. I'm still learning how my electric kiln works, and has over 50 enamel colors to play with. (Look for more enameled stuff sometime this year!) I run a "green", eco-friendly buiness. All of the sterling silver (wire, sheet, etc.) is 100% recycled, reclaimed, refined, and nickle-free stock. Most of the brass incorporated in the jewelry is unused vintage or antique stock, or may be deconstructed components from found vintage jewelry or objects. Some of these pieces are very old indeed, and have histories that may forever remain a complete mystery - something I find to be one of the most romantic aspects of my work. I never use any harsh chemicals during the fabrication process: citric acid is used as a “pickle” to clean the metal after using the torch, and liver of sulfur (potassium sulfide) is used to oxidize (darken) the metal should the design call for it. When spent, the solution is fed to plants in my garden. I acquire a matte finish either by a non-toxic form of etching, or by use of special abrasives. All solders used are free of lead and cadmium. Packaging, shipping materials, and business cards are recycled as well, and in an effort to conserve invoices are never included with orders. Receipts are available online should the need to print them arise. Each order comes in a hand-stamped, recycled kraft jewelry box, tied with a lovely organza ribbon - perfect for gifting. From time to time, you might even find a surprise gift with your order!
