Accept Credit Cards with Authorize.Net

Now that you have an account with CraftIsArt.com and you are ready to sell, you’re next step is to establish a way to receive payments from your customers. You may already have an account with PayPal or Amazon which are very useful when they are used in combination with the CraftIsArt Checkout Process.

The CraftIsArt Checkout Process (both Regular and Quick Checkout) allows sellers to collect the total amount from an order before it actually goes through, in other words, buyers cannot complete a transaction until they have paid your, and this is also called “Instant Payments”. Other venues do not offer Instant Payments and let orders go through without the buyer paying first, at this point sellers need to make arrangements so that buyers can submit a payment for the recent transaction, meaning that if the seller does not act quickly, a buyer that was willing to pay for the order they just placed may change their mind.

The PayPal and Amazon discomfort.

PayPal and Amazon have been widely used for a long time now, and they of course serve their purpose of helping merchants receive payments from customers. The inconvenient?, many people don't know about PayPal or Amazon, other people simple don't like them. These are potential buyers that with a full shopping cart ready to checkout may end up not buying anything as they were expecting to pay with a credit card during the checkout process. Instead, they need to take a few extra steps and go to PayPal's website (or Amazon's), sign in, or if they do not have an account, create one to continue entering their payment information until they are confirmed to complete payment. Buyers are more likely to complete the checkout process and actually buy an item from your shop by completing the checkout process here.

It is not as bad as it may sound, but we have to let you know the facts. Stats show PayPal and Amazon as a factor for “Shopping Cart Abandonment”, and in other cases, buyers placing orders using a different payment method (“Other” under “Payment Methods” here on CraftIsArt) that allows their order to go through instantly were actually expecting to provide their credit card information at some point inside CraftIsArt. Of course you as a seller do not want to miss these customers wanting to pay directly with a credit card.

    This caught my eye/
I already have a merchant service account,(the fees are unreal) as I do craft shows.
Usually we have no elect so I have to use the knuckle buster and do them in batch when I get home. Since there is no elect at shows, I do not have access to a computer.
How could this be helpful to me?
I am trying to read up on it.

If you already have a merchant account, getting an Authorize.Net Payment Gateway will let you take credit cards here on Craft Is Art, allowing your customers to securely enter their credit card information and finish paying for their order here as opposed to leaving to another website to pay for their order.

Now, when you are at Craft Shows, an Authorize.Net account will help you charge credit cards by using something called "Virtual Terminal", a Merchant Interface tool for manually keying in and submitting transactions, which is located inside your Authorize.Net account.

For this you'll need an internet connection and a computer/laptop, if you don't have a laptop you could buy a Netbook, a smaller version of a laptop but sometimes for half the cost, and finally get a wireless internet connection from a provider such as Verizon, AT&T, etc. so you can connect to the internet from anywhere.

    Dee,
Are you still looking for craft show payment options. I'm just checking out credit card options for our business. The smart phones would give you the internet access you need, but you'll need to pay the monthly fee for theses cell phone accounts. Of course there are fees for merchant accounts, but think about the missing sales; those additional sales should well make up for the fees so you still have more profit than non paying for a credit card service; it's just another business service fee, but with profits.
